In February this year, world pig iron production amounted to 95.99 million mt, falling by 9.3 percent compared to January and increasing by 5.2 percent compared to 2018, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in January-February period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 201.84 million mt, up by 4.9 percent year on year.
In February, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 76.46 million mt, up 7.7 percent, with 60 million mt produced by China, increasing by 9.6 percent, 5.61 million mt produced by Japan, falling by 9.2 percent, and 5.92 million mt produced by India, increasing by nine percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.15 million mt of pig iron, down 2.3 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 5.56 million mt, down 5.7 percent, on year-on-year basis.
