In October this year, world pig iron production amounted to 107.28 million mt, rising by 2.9 percent compared to September and increasing by five percent compared to the same month of 2017, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first ten months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 1.03 billion mt, up by 2.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
In October, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 85.36 million mt, up six percent, with 67.73 million mt produced by China, increasing by 7.3 percent, 6.28 million mt produced by Japan, falling by 4.4 percent, and 5.94 million mt produced by India, increasing by 1.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.67 million mt of pig iron, down 1.5 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 6.34 million mt, down 1.1 percent, on year-on-year basis.
