In July this year, world pig iron production amounted to 107.76 million mt, rising by 2.7 percent compared to June and also increasing by 3.9 percent compared to the same month of 2017, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 717.8 million mt, up by 2.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
In July, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 85.31 million mt, up 3.8 percent, with 67.51 million mt produced by China, rising by 4.2 percent, 6.29 million mt produced by Japan, declining by 3.6 percent, and 6.1 million mt produced by India, increasing by 13.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.93 million mt of pig iron, stable year on year, while the CIS produced 6.56 million mt, up 5.8 percent, on year-on-year basis.
