World pig iron output up 2.3 percent in January-July

In July this year, world pig iron production amounted to 101.59 million mt, rising by two percent compared to June and also increasing by two percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 698.12 million mt, up by 2.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

In July, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 79.5 million mt, up 3.5 percent, with 62.07 million mt produced by China, rising 5.1 percent, 6.5 million mt produced by Japan, declining 5.8 percent, and 5.37 million mt produced by India, increasing by 0.7 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.61 million mt of pig iron, stable year on year, while the CIS produced 7.05 million mt, down 8.5 percent, on year-on-year basis.
