In September this year, world pig iron production amounted to 97.56 million mt, falling by 4.3 percent compared to August and decreasing by 0.5 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 892.28 million mt, up by 1.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
In September, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 76.61 million mt, stable compared with September 2016, with 59.6 million mt produced by China, stable year on year, 6.37 million mt produced by Japan, declining 0.8 percent, and 5.38 million mt produced by India, increasing by 1.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.54 million mt of pig iron, up 2.8 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 6.17 million mt, down 11.5 percent, on year-on-year basis.
