In October this year, world pig iron production amounted to 99.65 million mt, rising by 1.9 percent compared to September and increasing by 1.3 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first ten months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 988.74 million mt, up by 0.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
In October, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 77.7 million mt, up 1.8 percent compared with October 2016, with 60.01 million mt produced by China, up 2.3 percent year on year, 6.57 million mt produced by Japan, declining 3.1 percent, and 5.75 million mt produced by India, increasing by 2.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 8.0 million mt of pig iron, up five percent year on year, while the CIS produced 6.38 million mt, down 11.6 percent on year-on-year basis.
