World pig iron output almost unchanged in January-October

In October this year, world pig iron production amounted to 97.99 million mt, increasing by 0.8 percent compared to September and rising by 2.8 percent compared to the same month of 2015, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
Meanwhile, in the January-October period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 970.03 million mt, remaining almost stable compared to the same period last year.
 
In October, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 76.28 million mt, up 3.5 percent, with 58.76 million mt produced by China, up 3.6 percent, 6.77 million mt produced by Japan, down two percent, and 5.49 million mt produced by India, increasing by 14.3 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.55 million mt of pig iron, down 0.6 percent, while the CIS produced 7.0 million mt, up 3.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
