According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first half of 2010 came to 28.81 million metric tons, rising by 11.15 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
Meanwhile, in June this year global DRI output totaled 4.78 million metric tons, dropping by 1.67 percent compared to May and up by 9.21 percent year on year.
The worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in May, with a DRI output of 1.67 million metric tons, down 3.19 percent month on month and down 1.77 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Saudi Arabia, with outputs of 820,000 mt and 462,000 mt respectively.
