World crude steel output increases by 4.7 percent in January-September

Global crude steel production in September this year remained almost unchanged month on month and rose by 4.4 percent year on year to 151.71 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the January-September period of this year, global crude steel production increased to 1.34 billion mt, up by 4.7 percent year on year.

In September this year, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 107.84 million mt, rising by 5.9 percent, with 80.84 million mt produced by China, up 7.5 percent, 8.41 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 2.4 percent, 8.52 million mt produced by India, increasing by 2.1 percent, and 5.85 million mt produced by South Korea, falling by 3.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

EU-28 countries produced 13.94 million mt of crude steel in September, up by 0.2 percent year on year. In September, Germany's output was 3.77 million mt, rising by 7.5 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 2.17 million mt, down by 0.8 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 1.34 million mt, up by 1.4 percent year on year.

Turkey produced 2.82 million metric tons of crude steel in September, with a 5.9 percent decrease from September last year. Iran's crude steel production in September amounted to two million mt, up by 4.3 percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 8.38 million mt in September, decreasing by 2.6 on year-on-year basis, with Russia producing 5.91 million mt, falling by 1.3 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.78 million mt, down by 7.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In North America in September, crude steel output totaled 10.02 million mt, increasing by 6.2 percent, with the US producing 7.25 million mt, rising by nine percent, and Mexico producing 1.6 million mt, up by 0.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in September amounted to 3.81 million mt, rising by one percent from September last year, with Brazil's output totaling 3.03 million mt, increasing by 2.5 percent year on year.
