Global crude steel production in September this year decreased by 2.9 percent month on month and by 0.3 percent year on year to 151.5 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the January-September period of this year, global crude steel production increased to 1.39 billion mt, up 3.9 percent year on year.
In the January-September period, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 1 billion mt, rising by 6.3 percent, with 747.82 million mt produced by China, up 8.4 percent, 75.64 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 3.8 percent, 84.19 million mt produced by India, rising by 3.5 percent, and 54.13 million mt produced by South Korea, down 0.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-28 countries produced 122.5 million mt of crude steel in the first nine months of this year, down by 2.8 percent year on year. In the given period, Germany's output was 30.55 million mt, falling by 4.4 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 17.62 million mt, down by 3.9 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 11.24 million mt, down by 3.1 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 25.28 million metric tons of crude steel in the first nine months of this year, with a 10.1 percent decrease from the same period last year. Iran's crude steel production in the first nine months of this year amounted to 19.32 million mt, up six percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 76.02 million mt, falling by 0.1 percent on year-on-year basis, with Russia producing 53.77 million mt, decreasing by 0.9 percent, and Ukraine producing 16.4 million mt, up 3.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In North America in the first nine months of this year, crude steel output totaled 90.62 million mt, increasing by 0.3 percent, with the US producing 66.2 million mt, rising by 3.2 percent, and Mexico producing 14.21 million mt, down by 8.2 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in the January-September period of this year amounted to 31.3 million mt, falling by 7.2 percent from the same period of 2018, with Brazil's output totaling 24.62 million mt, declining by 7.3 percent year on year.
