World crude steel output increases by 3.2 percent in January-October

Global crude steel production in October this year decreased by 2.8 percent year on year to 151.5 million metric tons, remaining stable compared to September, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

In the January-October period of this year, global crude steel production increased to 1.54 billion mt, up 3.2 percent year on year.

In the January-October period, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 1.1 billion mt, rising by 5.5 percent, with 829.2 million mt produced by China, up 7.4 percent, 83.8 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 3.9 percent, 93.3 million mt produced by India, rising by 2.8 percent, and 60.12 million mt produced by South Korea, down 0.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

EU-28 countries produced 135.5 million mt of crude steel in the first ten months of this year, down by 3.6 percent year on year. In the given period, Germany's output was 33.87 million mt, falling by 4.6 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 19.85 million mt, down by 3.8 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 12.41 million mt, down by 3.9 percent year on year.

Turkey produced 27.97 million metric tons of crude steel in the first ten months of this year, with a 10.6 percent decrease from the same period last year. Iran's crude steel production in the first ten months of this year amounted to 21.52 million mt, up 6.2 percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 83.78 million mt, rising by 0.1 percent on year-on-year basis, with Russia producing 59.34 million mt, decreasing by 0.1 percent, and Ukraine producing 17.96 million mt, up 2.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In North America in the first ten months of this year, crude steel output totaled 100.72 million mt, remaining stable, with the US producing 73.54 million mt, rising by 2.5 percent, and Mexico producing 15.73 million mt, down by 7.8 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in the January-October period of this year amounted to 34.66 million mt, falling by 8.3 percent from the same period of 2018, with Brazil's output totaling 27.22 million mt, declining by 8.6 percent year on year.
