Cengiz Gül, head of the Çelik-İş Union, has announced that the union has decided to go on strike at Turkish long steel producer Kardemir as of May 8, as collective labor agreement negotiations involving 3,000 workers have remained unresolved. The negotiations had started on January 2 this year.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, last week the Turkish Metal Union announced its decision for strike action involving 115,000 workers in the metal industry including automotive, white goods, iron and steel and electronics, as of Monday, May 6, after talks on a collective labor agreement with the Turkish Employers' Association of Metal Industries (MESS) failed to reach a positive conclusion.
