Workers at Brazil-based steelmaker GV do Brasil went on strike on Monday, SteelOrbis has learned. GV do Brasil is a local subsidiary of Mexican steelmaking Grupo Simec.

A local union said employees at GV do Brasil’s Pindamonhangaba mill, located in the city of same name in São Paulo state, halted activities after workers rejected a company’s wage readjustment. Workers claimed GV do Brasil’s salary increase was below inflation rates.

GV do Brasil has 400 workers at its Pindamonhangaba mill. Grupo Simec operates three mills in Brazil. The three units are located in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
