Wheeling-Pittsburgh announces surcharge
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation (WP) has announced a raw materials surcharge of $75 per net ton ($82.67 per metric ton) will be added to all shipments of steel products, effective Sunday, September 18. The companys motor carrier fuel charge will also remain in effect. WP vice president Steve Sorvold cites increasing costs as the reason for the surcharges, particularly rising costs of scrap, natural gas, and transportation -- all of which were exacerbated by Hurricane Katrina. WP makes and processes steel and steel products using integrated and electric arc furnace technology. Products include flat rolled sheet, coated products, and steel products used by the construction, highway, and agricultural markets.Wheeling-Pittsburgh announces surcharge
