Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said on Monday it halted cargo transportation out of its Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM) railway at the Belo Horizonte section due to the risk of a dam collapse at its Cava da Mina dam.

Vale announced late last week it has been monitoring the Cava da Mina dam at its Gongo Soco mine due to the risk of a collapse. Vale said last week the dam may collapse.

Vale halted cargo transportation at its EFVM railway on May 19. The trains transporting cargo run alongside the Gongo Soco mine in Barão de Cocais, in Minas Gerais state.

Vale said a collapse at the Cava da Mina dam would burst the Barragem Sul Superior dam at its Gongo Soco mine.
