Vale and BHP Billiton, 50/50 shareholders at Brazilian pellet producer Samarco, received an extension until June 25 to settle two multi-billion dollar lawsuits following the Mariana disaster in November 2015.

The new deadline covers two separate lawsuits, one of BRL 155 billion ($44.7 billion) and another for a combined BRL 20 billion ($5.7 billion). BHP and Vale signed in January this year agreements with public prosecutors, the first step to settling the lawsuits.
