Brazilian miner Vale has agreed on a $25 million pre-settlement deal over the Mariana disaster, which killed 19 people and halted production at Brazil-based pellets producer Samarco in November 2015. Samarco is a 50/50 joint venture between Vale and BHP Billiton.

According to a media report by Reuters, the deal follows a class action lawsuit by investors against Vale, alleging the company misled investors by hiding information regarding its risk policy and safety proceedings.

The settlement deal is yet to be reviewed by a court, which will determine if the amount of compensation is fair.
