Uzbekistan’s Uzmetkombinat increases steel output in Jan-May

According to the data issued by Uzbekistan's State Statistics Committee, in January-May this year the country's steel producer Uzmetkombinat increased its crude steel output by 1.1 percent year on year to 322,400 mt.
 
Meanwhile, during the period in question, Uzmetkombinat saw a 1.2 percent year on year increase in its rolled steel products output to 305,800 mt, including 231,800 mt of longs - up 0.8 percent compared to January-May 2009.
 
In 2009, Uzmetkombinat increased its crude steel production by 6.2 percent year on year to 716,400 mt and its rolled products output by 5.7 percent to 687,100 mt, including 545,600 mt of longs - up 8.3 percent, all compared to 2008, due to the implementation of its modernization program. In 2009, the company invested about $13 million in the modernization of its production facilities.
