The United Steelworkers union announced Tuesday that representatives met with Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) at the offices of the federal mediator in an attempt to find a solution to the current lock out, to discuss the recently announced idling’s of certain operations, to discuss the recent settlement in other parts of the industry and to discuss the NLBR findings with regard to the company’s conduct leading up to the lock out at all the affected plants.

The USW said representatives spent three hours together and reviewed both parties current positions and have scheduled additional meetings next week to determine if they have a path forward to a settlement.

The USW said it is hopeful that the management “may now want to find a solution to the problems that they have created through the lock out and the USW will be available as necessary to attempt to reach a settlement which returns our members to their jobs and to reach a fair settlement of our outstanding issues and concerns.”
