Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas said on Tuesday it is still evaluating conditions for resuming primary activities at its Cubatao mill.

The steelmaker shut down primary activities at the Cubatao mill located in the state of Sao Paulo in October 2015. The halt in activities included the mill’s melt shop, sintering and coking units.

The company’s comments this week follow a media report by Valor, which said the steelmaker could resume activities and operate at half the mill’s capacity of 4.5 million mt/year.

Usiminas said any decision to resume primary activities at Cubatao would be reviewed by the steelmaker’s board. Valor said Usiminas would reportedly resume one blast furnace at Cubatao and a continuous casting rolling mill.
