Usha Martin commences iron ore mining

Jamshedpur-based Usha Martin Limited, a major specialty long steel products manufacturer in India, announced the launch of its iron ore mining operations as a part of its backward integration efforts. Usha Martin's iron mine is located in Barajamda, 160 km from the company's steel plant at Jamshedpur. The mine holds reserves of high-grade iron ore that can be either used immediately in a blast furnace or made into Direct Reduced Iron (DRI). The company will mine 500'000 tons of iron ore per annum to use in its steel plant in Jamshedpur. Usha Martin has domestic production facilities in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Hoshiarpur, India. The company's foreign production facilities are located in the UK, Thailand and UAE.
