According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 106,027 mt in August 2018, up 40.9 percent from July but down 5.9 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $77.5 million in August 2018, compared to $55.2 million in the previous month and $69.9 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in August, with 28,248 mt, compared to 23,155 mt in July and 35,830 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported wire rod in August include Germany, with 19,181 mt; Japan, with 16,740 mt; Vietnam, with 10,984 mt; Morocco, with 10,264 mt; and Greece, with 7,498 mt.
