US wire rod imports up 3.3 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 60,278 mt in May 2020, up 3.3 percent from April and up 6.8 percent from May 2019 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $42.0 million in May 2020, compared to $41.8 million in the previous month and $44.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in May, with 19,456 mt, compared to 19,953 mt in April and 18,320 mt in May 2019. Other top sources of imported wire rod in May include Japan, with 15,482 mt; Brazil, with 9,598 mt; Germany, with 6,266 mt; and Korea, with 5,802 mt.
