US wire rod imports rise 59.5 percent in November

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 101,866 mt in November 2018, up 59.5 percent from October and up 42.3 percent from November 2017 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $77.3 million in November 2018, compared to $51.2 million in the previous month and $48.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Germany in November, with 28,049 mt, compared to 5,386 mt in October. Other top sources of imported wire rod in November include Canada, with 25,062 mt; Japan, with 18,549 mt; Australia, with 15,227 mt; Korea, with 5,781 mt; and Greece, with 4,298 mt.
