US wire rod imports rise 23.8 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 151,037 mt in March 2017, up 23.8 percent from February and up 21.1 percent from March 2016 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $88.3 million in March 2017, compared to $61.5 million in the previous month and $62.8 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in March, with 40,508 mt, compared to 29,149 mt in February and 36,752 mt in March 2016. Other top sources of imported wire rod in March include Turkey, with 25,319 mt; Ukraine, with 23,920 mt; Japan, with 20,113 mt; Brazil, with 7,703 mt; and Spain, with 7,211 mt.
