US wire rod imports fall 7.9 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 142,104 mt in July 2017, down 7.9 percent from June but up 25.0 percent from July 2016 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $82.9 million in July 2017, compared to $88.7 million in the previous month and $61.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Germany in July, with 29,814 mt, compared to 4,105 mt in June and 5,992 mt in July 2016. Other top sources of imported wire rod in July include Canada, with 26,021 mt; Egypt, with 15,206 mt; Ukraine, with 14,712 mt; Japan, with 12,322 mt; and Brazil, with 10,585 mt.
