US wire rod imports down 53.8 percent in February

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 55,360 mt in February 2019, down 53.8 percent from January and down 43.7 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $42.9 million in February 2018, compared to $87.7 million in the previous month and $62.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in February, with 17,973 mt, compared to 26,486 mt in January and 29,913 mt in February 2018. Other top sources of imported wire rod in February include Egypt, with 9,134 mt; Japan, with 7,243 mt; Germany, with 6,959 mt; Brazil, with 4,881 mt; and Korea, with 4,776 mt.
