US wire rod imports down 41.1 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 71,383 mt in June 2018, down 41.1 percent from May and down 53.7 percent from June 2017 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $55.8 million in June 2018, compared to $90.4 million in the previous month and $88.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in June, with 29,162 mt, compared to 44,362 mt in May and 31,731 mt in June 2017. Other top sources of imported wire rod in June include Japan, with 14,302 mt; Brazil, with 13,394 mt; Germany, with 8,624 mt; and Greece, with 5,702 mt.
