US wire rod imports down 33.3 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 94,737 mt in August 2017, down 33.3 percent from July and down 33.1 percent from August 2016 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $61.0 million in August 2017, compared to $82.9 million in the previous month and $74.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in August, with 35,830 mt, compared to 26,021 mt in July and 33,303 mt in August 2016. Other top sources of imported wire rod in August include Japan, with 13,962 mt; Egypt, with 10,487 mt; Germany, with 9,202 mt; Brazil, with 7,960 mt; and the United Kingdom, with 3,930 mt.
