US wire rod imports down 21 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 77,609 mt in March 2018, down 21.0 percent from February and down 48.6 percent from March 2017 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $56.5 million in March 2018, compared to $62.9 million in the previous month and $88.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in March, with 33,354 mt, compared to 29,913 mt in February and 40,508 mt in March 2017. Other top sources of imported wire rod in March include Brazil, with 16,886 mt; Japan, with 11,426 mt; Egypt, with 8,001 mt; and India, with 5,821 mt.
