US wire rod exports down 8 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of wire rod totaled 3,605 mt in May 2019, down 8.0 percent from April and down 51.8 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, wire rod exports totaled $3.5 million in May, compared to $3.9 million in the previous month and $7.1 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most wire rod to Canada in May with 2,261 mt, compared to 2,787 mt in April and 4,861 mt in May 2018. Other destinations include Mexico, with 1,222 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export wire rod in May.
