US weekly raw steel production rates down slightly week-over-week

According to the most recent data from AISI, for the week ending on January 20, 2018, US domestic raw steel production was 1,693,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 72.6 percent.

Production was 1,736,000 net tons in the week ending January 20, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 74.5 percent. The current week production represents a 2.5 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 20, 2018 is down 0.8 percent from the previous week ending January 13, 2018 when production was 1,707,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.2 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 20, 2018 was 4,803,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.1 percent. That is down 3.2 percent from the 4,960,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.5 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending January 20, 2018 in thousands of net tons is as follows: North East: 213; Great Lakes: 648; Midwest: 160; Southern: 599 and Western: 73 for a total of 1693.
