US weekly raw steel production increases another 0.7 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Wednesday that US raw steel production rose 0.7 percent in the week ending December 22, following a 1.4 percent increase the previous week.

Total raw steel production i the United States amounted to 1,840,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.7 percent increase from the 1,827,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 1.2 percent drop from the 1,863,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 74.5 percent in the week ending December 22, compared to 73.9 percent in the previous week and 75.2 percent in the same week last year.
