US weekly raw steel production continues to increase

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production rose 0.6 percent in the week ending March 30, following a 1.3 percent increase in the week ending March 23.
 
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,819,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.6 percent increase from the 1,809,000 nt produced in the previous week and an 8.2 percent drop from the 1,982,000 nt produced during the same week a year ago.
 
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.9 percent in the week ending March 30, compared to 75.5 percent in the previous week and 79.6 percent in the same week last year.
