US tool steel imports up 5.2 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tool steel totaled 9,868 mt in July 2019, up 5.2 percent from June but down 29.2 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, tool steel imports totaled $31.6 million in July 2019, compared to $26.3 million in the previous month and $35.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tool steel from Japan in July, with 2,820 mt, compared to 3,825 mt in June and 2,788 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported tool steel in July include China, with 1,267 mt; and Sweden, with 1,008 mt.
