US tool steel imports up 22.6 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tool steel totaled 12,095 mt in August 2019, up 22.6 percent from July but down 8.1 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, tool steel imports totaled $31.5 million in August 2019, compared to $31.6 million in the previous month and $34.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tool steel from Japan in August, with 5,716 mt, compared to 2,820 mt in July and 2,321 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported tool steel in August include China, with 1,003 mt.
