US tool steel imports down 33.9 percent in September

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tool steel totaled 7,987 mt in September 2019, down 33.9 percent from August and down 21.1 percent from September 2018 levels. By value, tool steel imports totaled $23.3 million in September 2019, compared to $31.6 million in the previous month and $26.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tool steel from Japan in September, with 3,269 mt, compared to 5,716 mt in August and 3,094 mt in September 2018. There were no other significant sources (1,000 mt or more) for US tool steel imports in September.
