US tin plate imports up 37.2 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 67,771 mt in March 2019, up 37.2 percent from February and up 60.3 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $68.2 million in March 2018, compared to $51.0 million in the previous month and $44.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tin plate from Netherlands in March, with 26,747 mt, compared to 20,240 mt in February and 6,925 mt in March 2018. Other top sources of imported tin plate in March include China, with 15,721 mt; Canada, with 13,896 mt; Germany, with 7,384 mt; and Taiwan, with 2,609 mt.
