US tin plate imports up 1.8 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 68,167 mt in August 2019, up 1.8 percent from July and up 11.4 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $72.4 million in August 2019, compared to $70.9 million in the previous month and $64.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tin plate from Netherlands in August, with 27,787 mt, compared to 24,096 mt in July and 22,221 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported tin plate in August include Canada, with 12,805 mt; Germany, with 9,300 mt; China, with 8,714 mt; and Korea, with 8,264 mt.
