US tin plate imports down 7.2 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 38,067 mt in January 2020, down 7.2 percent from December and down 34.9 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $41.9 million in January 2020, compared to $44.7 million in the previous month and $59.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tin plate from Canada in January, with 16,177 mt, compared to 11,135 mt in December and 8,755 mt in January 2019. Other top sources of imported tin plate in January include Korea, with 11,184 mt; Germany, with 5,538 mt; Brazil, with 1,821 mt; and Netherlands, with 1,549 mt.
