US tin plate imports down 14.8 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 50,830 mt in May 2019, down 14.8 percent from April and down 24.4 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $54.0 million in May 2019, compared to $62.4 million in the previous month and $71.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tin plate from Netherlands in May, with 18,102 mt, compared to 15,689 mt in April and 23,729 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported tin plate in May include Canada, with 13,884 mt; Korea, with 7,160 mt; Germany, with 6,165 mt; and China, with 3,282 mt.
