US tin plate imports down 11.9 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 59,661 mt in April 2019, down 11.9 percent from March and down 7.6 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $62.4 million in April 2018, compared to $68.2 million in the previous month and $68.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tin plate from Germany in April, with 17,798 mt, compared to 7,384 mt in March and 19,865 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported tin plate in April include Netherlands, with 15,689 mt; Canada, with 13,279 mt; Korea, with 4,853 mt; and Taiwan, with 2,835 mt.
