US tariff increase on Chinese imports comes into force

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on May 9 that it will begin collecting a 25 percent tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports at 12:01 am on Friday, May 10. There is a grace period for US-bound shipments already in transit or departing in the next few hours.

The increase to 25 percent from 10 percent affects over 5,700 product categories.
