US structural pipe and tube imports up 11.2 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of structural pipe and tube totaled 36,838 mt in August 2018, up 11.2 percent from July but down 33.8 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube imports totaled $41.4 million in August 2018, compared to $36.3 million in the previous month and $58.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most structural pipe and tube from Canada in August, with 15,440 mt, compared to 15,111 mt in July and 21,703 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported structural pipe and tube in August include Korea, with 9,484 mt; Mexico, with 4,794 mt; Turkey, with 2,957 mt; and Taiwan, with 1,274 mt.
