US structural pipe and tube exports down 22.7 percent in December

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of structural pipe and tube totaled 6,366 mt in December 2018, down 22.7 percent from November and down 44.0 percent from December 2017 levels. By value, structural pipe and tube exports totaled $10.1 million in December, compared to $12.5 million in the previous month and $14.8 million in December 2017.

The US shipped the most structural pipe and tube to Mexico in December with 2,821 mt, compared to 3,833 mt in November and 2,496 mt in December 2017. Other top destinations included Canada, with 2,510 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US structural pipe and tube exports in December.

As for the full-year 2018, US structural pipe and tube exports totaled 145,749 mt, down 11.8 percent from 2017 totals. By value, structural pipe and tube exports totaled $206.5 million in 2018, compared to $207.1 million in 2017.
