US Steel will restart the No. 6 blast furnace at its Gary Works plant in Gary, Indiana next week, according to news reports. The furnace was idled in late April as automakers shut down operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the company, the restart is attributed to increased demand. The company has already restarted its No. 1 blast furnace at the Mon Valley plant in Pennsylvania, which was also idled months ago because of pandemic-related shutdowns.
