US steel tubular producers have established a new group against China's alleged evasion of import duties on steel tubular products.
According to news sources, the group who are all also members of the Committee on Pipe and Tube Imports (CPTI), have called on the federal government to take action to enforce the duties and end China's alleged illegal practices.
Chinese companies are labeling shipments to make them seem as though they are coming from Malaysia, Vietnam or other countries that do not face duties, said Roger Schagrin, a lawyer for the CPTI. It has also been claimed that Chinese products are entering the country in containers categorized as other products.
Lee Searing, president of Searing Industries Inc., based in Rancho Cucamonga, California, also called on the US government to take action, saying that, during his company's 40 years as a family-owned business, he has never witnessed such fraudulent evasion of duties on imports.
