US Steel to invest in Gary Works

United States Steel Corporation (US Steel) announced plans to rebuild the No.13 blast furnace at the company's Gary Works plant. Once the overhaul of the blast furnace is completed, it will have a daily production capacity of 9'200 tons of hot metal. The blast furnace currently produces 7'045 tons of hot metal per day. The rebuild of the blast furnace will start on August 1, 2005, and last until October 30, 2005. The furnace will then be renamed the No.14 blast furnace. US Steel has already begun stockpiling inventory at Gary Works in order to meet customer needs during the overhaul.
