US Steel recalls workers to tubular plant

According to union officials, US Steel has recalled about 410 of 460 laid-off workers to its tubular steel plant in Lorain, Ohio.

US Steel has not commented on the recall, but the move has been attributed to US Steel CEO John Surma’s latest quarterly report announcement of “the return of profitability of our tubular operations.” The report said that shipments of tubular steel had increased by 37 percent to 207,000 tons, which the report called “a significant increase, but still well below historical levels.”

The United Steelworkers of America Local 1104 report that the employees will be back to work next week.
