US steel mill shipments up 6 percent in August

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of August 2017, US steel mills shipped 7,928,795 net tons, a 6.0 percent increase from the 7,480,241 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2017, and a 5.1 percent increase from the 7,542,605 net tons shipped in August 2016. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2017 are 60,868,122 net tons, a 3.1 percent increase compared to shipments of 59,033,706 net tons during the first eight months of 2016.

A comparison of August shipments to the previous month of July shows the following changes:  hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 8 percent; hot rolled sheets, up 5 percent; and cold rolled sheets, up 3 percent.
